The Wolverines are off to a hot start for the third year in a row, searching for yet another Big Ten title and more as the 2023 season progresses. While the Maize and Blue are locked in on this week’s Big Ten opener, one rising Michigan football star — Keon Sabb — has an ambitious outlook on where the program is headed in the years to come. According to this young defensive back, “not even the sky can be the limit” for the Wolverines.

Yesterday, rising Michigan football star Keon Sabb had a chance to address the media ahead of the Wolverines’ matchup against Rutgers (Big Ten opener) this weekend. Sabb has been called on quite a bit throughout the first few weeks of the season due to injuries, and while he may not be needed in such a large role moving forward, the it’s clear that the Wolverines have something special with him.

“We were looking at it as there is no limit — not even the sky can be the limit,” Keon Sabb said, talking about his signing class (2022). “We’ve got so much talent on our team and in our class. We just look at it as making sure we take advantage of this opportunity we have with the guys we have together. Because we can be special.”

Keon Sabb gives more detail on his progression

Keon Sabb says that last fall, he didn’t feel ready to step up into a starting role as a true freshman. This year, however, things are different, and he can see the progression on the field.

“I think the film watch is pretty much the same, but now it’s starting to click for me, I’m starting to understand things more,” Sabb explained. “I think it’s more about reps, the first time seeing things. I don’t really understand it as much, but now I’m seeing it over time, and getting the experience to play is making it a better transition for me.”

Right now, Keon Sabb and the Michigan football defense are ranked No. 1 in the nation (scoring defense/points allowed), so keep an eye on the Wolverines to keep up the impressive play this weekend. On Saturday, the Scarlet Knights come to town, officially marking the start of conference games and Jim Harbaugh’s return in Ann Arbor.

So far this fall, Sabb has recorded nine total tackles, a tackle for loss, and a pass breakup through three games.
