Christian Horner advises Toto Wolff to be 'worried' about 220 Mercedes staff that left for Red Bull

It was recently announced that design legend Adrian Newey would be parting ways with Red Bull during the early months of 2025. This led Toto Wolff  to comment on the matter and warn the Austrian giant of the possible ramifications that could follow. However, Christian Horner retaliated to such warnings by revealing the details of members that he has poached from his rivals over the years.

The feud originated from Adrian Newey‘s sudden departure to leave the Austrian giant amid ongoing shenanigans at the team. This reportedly made the Brit feel uncomfortable at Red Bull, which eventually led to his departure. Following this, several other team principals warned Christian Horner of the possible consequences and the brain drain the team could face in the coming weeks.

However, Horner was not happy with the statements made by other team supremos and called them out for being unable to save their personnel when Red Bull approached them.

I don't have any concern of the strength in depth. Of course, there is always going to be movement between teams. I don't know how many people we or RB have employed from McLaren this year. Mercedes, we have taken 220 people out of HPP into Red Bull Powertrains. So, when we are talking about losing people, I would be a bit more worried about the 220 than maybe one or two CVs. Christian Horner said in an interview with Motorsport.com

The 50-year-old deemed the warnings insignificant. He then pointed out the staggering number of people that Milton Keynes has recruited for their engine project and claimed it is in the vicinity of 220 people to have left the alliance of the German marque’s HPP department for the RBPT project. Subsequently, he warned Toto Wolff and indicated that he should be the one to be worried instead of him.

Christian Horner dissects the reason for Max Verstappen’s loss in Miami

Though Horner is optimistic about Red Bull’s pace going forward, the team hit a bump in Miami when Lando Norris became a winner on merit against their star driver. This led to the formation of multiple theories on why Max Verstappen was unable to catch back up to Norris, and the Englishman has dissected the real reason behind it.

The 50-year-old deemed Verstappen’s inability to catch Norris a coincidence.

Obviously thereafter we then pitted. The Safety Car came out at the best time for Lando and gave him essentially a free stop but, obviously not great for us because then you're on tyres six or seven laps older. And with the damage, I think that actually second place was actually still a pretty decent result. Christian Horner said in an interview with F1

The Red Bull supremo claimed that due to the safety car, Verstappen was left vulnerable and had an old set of tires on the restart, which proved to be disadvantageous for him. Moreover, he then added that the 26-year-old was racing with damage after he took off the bollard in the last sector of the circuit, which could have been the real reason behind him finishing runners-up.

However, Verstappen was adamant that it was due to the damaged floor on his RB20 and that things would return to normality from the next race onwards. But due to the sudden surge in McLaren‘s performances, Red Bull might have a target on their back going forwards into the 2024 F1 season.
