In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
He’s passionate, and he’s all in, but unless the admins at UCLA actually go full-in on football, he’s not gonna make a difference. UCLA could be a sleeping giant in the Big Ten, but they will never fully commit to being a football school as higher-ups prefer their academic reputation or basketball, and football has always been down the line as far as a priority. I’m less worried about his lack of head coaching experience than I am about the support he will get. This won’t go well.
Nick Sheridan isn’t a sexy name, and Ryan Grubb was the guy Bama fans wanted to hang onto, but let’s be clear: new head coach Kalen DeBoer wants his hands in this offense to a large extent so Sheridan is a good choice. He worked with him at Indiana and in Washington and knows the DeBoer offense very well. If this were a situation where playcalling was being turned over completely, then I’d be worried if I was an Alabama fan. But that’s not the case here, so no worries, DeBoer will run a fun offense.
They go all the way back to Day’s QB days at UNH and have worked together well numerous times. So, you put similar philosophies together with that Ohio State talent and allow Day to focus more on the day-to-day and you have a recipe for success. This has every chance of being amazing, and the Ohio State offense will make a major move upward next season, even with QB questions.
