“July 6th I’m back and they woke a monster up. I’m the best fighter in the sport, take it how you wanna. Every[one] gets punished from here on out,” Stevenson said

His current opponent is unclear. William Zepeda has been mentioned for the next bout. The Mexican is an undefeated KO artist with a 30-0 record, 26 of which have come by knockout. Zepeda is coming off a stoppage win over Maxi Hughes. After his win, Zepeda called out Shakur Stevenson. Oscar De La Hoya was also behind that fight, but there is nothing to indicate that it is close.

“That was what we worked on throughout this camp. It’s no secret, just an old-school approach. We target the body and work our way up to the head. We were very pleased with the results tonight. In a perfect world, I want Shakur next.

“I’m ready to answer that call. We’re going to sit down as a team and discuss what’s next for me. But I really feel out of all the champions out there, my style and Shakur’s match up the best. He needs an opponent and July is perfect timing for me to return,” Zepeda said

Stevenson vs Garcia

Stevenson is also targeting a huge fight with Ryan Garcia. Ryan is currently preparing to face Devin Haney on April 20. A win gives Garcia his first-ever world title in the form of the WBC Junior Welterweight Title.

Garcia admitted that if he gets past Haney, he wishes to secure the Gervonta Davis rematch. Davis stopped Garcia in the seventh round, giving him the first loss of his career. But Garcia claimed the 136-pound catchweight and ten-pound rehydration clause had depleted him. If that fight cannot be made, Ryan has agreed to face Shakur next, even if Garcia was critical of the boxer.

“My hand was injured, and I couldn’t even use it during my whole training camp for [Francisco] Fonseca and knocked that dude out in one round. Don’t give me that, ‘My hand hurt.’ Everybody’s hand hurts. “No, they don’t. Quit hyping up Shakur. I have not heard that at all. I’ve never heard that. no one on the street has ever said, ‘Yo, you and Shakur would be great.’ You do, you and yourself,” Garcia stated 

“If I don’t get the rematch with Gervonta Davis, you have my word, we’ll fight,” Garcia said

Shakur knows he cannot afford to put in another below-par performance. Boxers are only as good as their last fights. So if Stevenson comes out victorious with an impressive win, he will put himself back in the conversation for the biggest fights.
