Eagles Reportedly Fielding Trade Offers On Star Pass Rusher
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles are having trade talks on defensive end Josh Sweat, according to Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL media.

Whether that means the Eagles are making the calls or taking the calls is anyone’s guess, but evidently, Sweat is available.

Sweat is coming off of a relatively disappointing 2023 campaign in which he played every game and registered 43 tackles, 6.5 sacks and a couple of forced fumbles.

Then again, what wasn’t disappointing about this past season for Philadelphia?

Sweat, who played his collegiate football at Florida State, was selected by Philly in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

He appeared in nine contests during his rookie year but essentially made zero impact, logging one tackle. The following season, Sweat’s role grew, as he participated in every game and finished with 21 tackles and four sacks.

The 26-year-old continued to display growth in 2020, registering 38 tackles, six sacks and three forced fumbles. Then, in 2021, Sweat made his first Pro Bowl after recording 45 tackles, 7.5 sacks, a forced fumble and four passes defended.

Sweat proceeded to enjoy the best year of his career to date, however, in 2022, when he racked up 48 tackles, 11 sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and a defensive touchdown. Even though he was more productive that season than he was in 2021, he did not land a Pro Bowl selection.

Based on Sweat’s 2022 production, his output in 2023 was a bit underwhelming, which may be why the Eagles are apparently attempting to trade him.

Sweat has one year remaining on his deal and is slated to earn just $1.125 million in base salary next season.

Philadelphia got off to a 10-1 start this past year, but ended up losing five of its last six regular-season games to finish 11-6. It was then routed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.
